Dating back to 1924, this Portuguese manor house has been recently converted to offer a luxurious stay for a large group, set within a typical slow-living and tranquil village in the heart of the Alentejo province. Casa Branca is a place to relax and recharge your batteries in between exploring the local wonders.
The region boasts a strong Moorish influence, and the property incorporates architectural features from this Arab heritage, such as thick white walls, vaulted rooms and exposed red-brick work combined with wood-panelled walls, glazed tiles and “trompe-l’oeil” ceilings fitting of a manor. Restyling it to 21st century standards included polished cement floors, lush bedrooms and modern bathrooms with rain showers. For outdoor living, there is a spacious covered dining terrace and swimming pool sitting within a spacious all-enclosed patio.
Casa Branca is well suited for a large family or a private group and year-round rentals – you will receive a warm welcome from the full-time staff and the in-house cook who will prepare all your meals. There is also a concierge team to organise any special requests, visits and exploring.
The location is perfect for discovering the inland Alentejo province and all it has to offer, coming back for a refreshing dip in the saltwater swimming pool on hot days and enjoying outdoors meals around a fire pit when the weather is cooler.
When staying at Casa Branca, an educational visit to Herdade do Mouchão winery nearby is a must, but the region also boasts two UNESCO Heritage Sites (Evora and Elvas) and several medieval castles to explore, plus delightful farmers and antiques markets to meander through.
Other local experiences which can be organized for your group are outings to the Berardo Tile Museu in Estremoz (https://museuberardoestremoz.pt/) or the Fabrica Alentejana de Lanifícios in Reguengos de Monsaraz (https://www.fabricaal.com/en/), a factory of traditional blankets, rugs and carpets that has become a hub of artistic development of decorative art pieces. WARNING NOTES: Guests with mobility issues including toddlers, might find it difficult to manage the staircases between levels and there is no lift - however, pre-walking babies are welcome and one suite on the ground floor is particularly suited for anyone with physical limitations.
