"Amidst Olhão’s cubic Moorish architecture, this gem of a townhouse with a rooftop plunge pool, is perfect for a couple getaway or small family holiday."
Olhão 67 is a lovingly restored 2-bedroom townhouse of 75 sq metres spread over 3 floors, ideal for a couple getaway or small family holiday. Its contemporary interiors are full of light with an appealing open plan kitchen and dining area extending onto a semi covered terrace for “al fresco” meals. There is also a 50 sq metre roof terrace with plunge pool for chilling out, which enjoys wonderful views over the historic town centre – the perfect spot for drinks at sunset!
The town’s narrows alleyways and winding streets with pastel coloured cubic houses of Moorish characteristics, are fun to explore. We recommend you start the day by getting some fresh bakeries from the local “pastelaria” (bakery) before heading for the beach.
Once a major fishing port at the centre of Portugal’s canning industry, staying in Olhão makes for a genuine Algarve stay, full of charm and quirks. From the waterfront boulevard you can get a ferry or water taxi to the barrier islands that form part of the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve, Armona, Culatra and Fuzeta amongst them. Small fishing communities give these islands a great atmosphere and the sandy beaches are wonderful. As well as enjoying great walks and bird watching on the Ria Formosa, the area is also known for its sea horse protection programme.
Another absolutely ‘must do’ when in Olhão, is to browse the market which offers a wide variety of locally grown fruit and vegetables and freshly caught fish and seafood. Surrounding the market are some great little shops selling handmade baskets and pottery. And once you tire of the shopping, there are numerous cafes and traditional restaurants on the water-font too, from where you can enjoy the local comings and goings. Clams, oysters and octopus are local specialities to try out.
WARNING NOTES: This property is not suitable for people with mobility issues. Children are welcome but parents need to be aware that the property has steep steps between floors.
