The Winery has been converted from an old barn into a uber-cool rural villa with a stunning infinity swimming pool. It sits on an elevated position surrounded by vineyards as far as the eye can see, just 45 minutes from Lisbon airport. Due to its central location, it makes for a perfect short break on the way north or south of Portugal and coupled with another villa stay.

The region of Alenquer (north side of the Tagus River) has been producing table wines since Roman times and has a rich religious and cultural heritage, including castles, convents, churches and stately homes, some of which you can visit.

With reverence to its wine-making past and present, the original building at The Winery has undergone a sympathetic remodel and amongst its distinctive features are the high beamed ceiling, modern barn doors and picture windows allowing for the light to pour in, industrial finish walls and polished cement floors. The old “lagar” (stone grape press) and the wine vats have been integrated into the open-plan living area, with unique vintage pieces of furniture completing the chic interiors. Three bedroom suites, all boasting a private balcony in a separate modern concrete house, sit to one side but are linked to the main building by an underground tunnel or a 20 metres walk through the garden. Above the suites, sits a rooftop swimming pool and outdoor lounge, just the place to sip one of the organic table wines produced on the estate!

The grounds that surround the property total 4,5 hectares, perfect for walks or a picnic amongst the daily activities that take place in maintaining vineyards, whilst other visits and wine tastings can be arranged at nearby wineries. More active guests might enjoy hiking or biking in Serra de Montejunto, a mountain range and protected landscape where multiple ecosystems are preserved, and one can find some prehistoric settlements and some of Portugal’s oldest ruins.

WARNING NOTES: This is a working estate where machinery and farming products abound, and there are also some unprotected drops around the elevated swimming pool – young children must be supervised.

GENERAL BOOKING & CANCELLATION TERMS

Minimum 2 nights rental
Check-in after 15:00 hours; check-out before 11:00 hours
No parties for more than full capacity, no smoking indoors (penalty equal to security deposit)
Pets on request, subject to an extra security deposit
Extra services are subject to availability and should be booked well in advance especially in high season; no credit cards accepted locally, only cash
Non-refundable rental deposit of 30% required to reserve the property
Rental balance due 6 weeks prior to start date of rental, non-refundable after this date
Security deposit of €500 to be paid in advance of rental - this amount minus any applicable charges is refundable at the end of the holiday.
